Our second largest crowd ever, thanks I'm sure to another "big name" guest speaker, and the hopes of winning a new handheld as a give away.
We discussed some general topics first:
- Our next meeting is April 11,
2002. This meeting will be at
Lessenger Elementary School in Madison Heights. Our topic next month is
"Palms In Education". We have several guest speakers lined up to
discuss how they use Palms in the Classroom:
- Ella Modell, Director of Technical Education at Lake Orion High School will discuss how her school uses Palms
- Michelle Cassidy and Craig Hinshaw from Lessenger Elementary School in Madison Heights will discuss their participation in Palm's Ripple Project (see this article in a recent Detroit News, and their "Success Story" on Palm's website). Some of their students will attend too.
- Video "Learning in the Palm of your Hand: Stories from the Classroom" by The Center for Highly Interactive Computing in Education
- Mike Curtus, U of M Grad Student working at The Center for Highly Interactive Computing in Education to discuss Hi-Ce's efforts in getting Palms into K-12 classrooms.
- Next month marks DPUG's 2 year anniversary. To celebrate this, we will be serving refreshments. In conjunction with our "Palms in Education" theme, or PIE, we will be serving--you guessed it, pie. Bring a pie if you can, store bought or homemade. We'll supply some pies as well as all the paper/plasticware.
- We have updated our "Find the Perfect Handheld" web page on our web site to include photos of each item, as well as a link to buy the item on Amazon.com, who seems to consistently have the best prices. We've received lots of great feedback from people about this page, and hope to add even more enhancements to it in the future.

- - Treo 270 model - is the full color screen version of the Treo. Will list for $599 w/service agreement. This model is like the Treo 180 in that there is an integrated keyboard (no Graffiti).
