We discussed some general topics first:
Meeting Minutes: - DietLog review - DPUG Founder Tracy Dreslinski DietLog is a nifty way to track exactly how much you eat. You can use it not only as a weight loss tool, but also to track things like sodium intake, cholesterol intake, etc. DietLog has a very extensive database of foods, so that you can simply select the item you ate, and add it to your meals record. DietLog totals each meal, each day, and each week's caloric intake, as well as sugar, fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, and protein. Being the Type A person that I am there were several user interface issues I personally didn't like about DietLog and that I found very annoying. Healthetech, the makers of DietLog, have a new product out called BalanceLog which they feel addresses my issues and complaints. I haven't personally tried BalanceLog yet, so I can't vouch for if they fixed things up or not. DietLog is being discontinued January 31 and will be replaced by BalanceLog. Registered DietLog users can upgrade to BalanceLog for $20. Visit www.healthetech.com for more information. - Personal Expense Manager (PEM) review by DPUG Founder Tracy Dreslinski PEM is a very simple and easy to use expense tracking program. You enter items as either an income or an expense, and PEM keeps a running total of how you're doing. Great for tracking what happened to that $100 you just withdrew from the ATM last week.... PEM keeps a history of all your recently entered items so that you don't have to keep reentering text over and over again. PEM allows you to export to a tab-delimeted Memo Pad file, which you can then HotSync to your desktop and import into Excel. PEM is shareware and lists for $15 which is probably about $5 more than it's worth. Visit www.umap.net/MacPalm/ for more information. - Stock Manager presented by DPUG member Glenn Leckie Stock Manager is a slick application made by Tiny Stocks. It is packed with features for tracking your investment portfolio, both stocks and mutual funds. It comes with lots of graphical tools. Glen spoke very highly of this product, and particularly like the desktop stock tracker that Tiny Stocks sells. Note that Stock Manager does not come with a desktop application, but that TIny Stocks sells separately desktop software for instantly updating and monitoring your key investment items. Stock Manager is shareware and lists for $24.95. Visit www.tinystocks.com for more information. - Tom Buck, Founder of 2Thynk (Farmington based company) to present their Palm Applications: Tom walked us through two of his companies products which are tools intended to help you think, plan, and manage your life. Decisions is a decision-making application; you enter the decision you need to make, and then enter and rank your requirements. Decisions walks you through risk assessments and helps you determine the best decision based on your input. Decisions is commercial software and lists for $20. Visit www.2thynk.com for more information. High Performer is a tool for managers and supervisors who need to do annual performance reviews of their employees. You can enter a running log of any accomplishments that your employee achieved thought the year so that when review time rolls around you have a record of activities. Unfortunately, there is no desktop support or any way to export the data to Memo Pad, so you're left with all this great info on your Palm which you would then have to retype into the review. High Performer is commercial software and lists for $20. Visit www.2thynk.com for more information. It was our favorite kind of meeting--nearly everyone in attendance walked
away with something. Our give aways were:
