Hi Don
thanks,
If I need drama , I know where to get it and for both the sites mentioned I think that is where they fail to keep my interest.
There is nothing wrong with difference of opinion, factual or not, but if we as photographic workers cannot discuss issues without name calling and such I would want to leave.
I find that I will not even open threads on some of the other sites because I see the name of the originator, or last poster and I know right away its going to be a time waster.
I have only put one person on my ignore list for LargeFormat,APUG and Hybrid, in all these years. It did work for me but I wish that person could of been less antagonistic so I did not have to ignore the posts.
Bob,
I'm in total agreeement about dropping the Lounge here.

bob,
you put into words a variety of things i have been thinking about since i read sandy's comments.
I have supported APUG and believe it is the place for all things analog, but i also have other interest and it is nice to see names here that i have learned to trust. As we all are aware there are a lot of folks who can talk but can't seem to walk the talk.
Hopefully, we can keep things on track here so we don't have to use the ignore function, etc.
I am hopefull about this because we have started out small and are growing slowly and perhaps that can assit in getting a handle on the BS before it gets out of control.
I have noticed in the past few weeks (and only because i started paying attention) that everytime i sign on there are at least 15 people viewing this site. I don't know what this means in real terms, but to me, i find it encouraging that regardless of the time of day others are checking out the site.

:) I probably have over 75 names on my APUG ignore list, I have none here.

Sean , John if you are seeing this, now is the time to revisit how this site is going to prosper.
My vote, no lounge, no soapbox,
For those of you who do not know John Callow , he is tough as nails and I am confident he can bounce out the shit disturbers with a level hand.
We all have bad days, its tough making a living or career out of photography, but for those of us who make this our life it would be nice not to deal with unneccessary crap on a site dedicated to excellence.

Bob, et al,
A long time ago I petitioned Sean to make APUG more exclusive -- new members by invitation only or by member sponsorship. My thoughts were that the site was so good where it was that I saw no need to grow it larger. I also felt that there was a chance that if it grew it would become dilute. I hadn't thought at that time that the bigger problem would be personal conflicts. Apug has great information and the moderators and Sean spend more time managing ways to give the angry a place to post so that rest can focus on photography. We don't have a signal to noise issue or an anger issue yet, and it may be that to keep it that way we will need to restrict the posts to photo related subjects only.
I have no issue removing the lounge and we will never have a soap box, but as I've said when ever the subject comes up I want the members to decide what this site is going to be -- So far you haven't let me down. As I see it, my job is to facilitate your desires and to keep the place safe.
I have had only one issue where a member has brought his problems on to the site, and I did deal with him strongly. I told him that if he wanted to stay he had to keep his issues off of the forum, or I would ban him. He seems to have decided that he couldn't do that as he nolonger posts, but is now on other sites blaming APUG for heavy handed moderation -- I guess Hybrid isn't big enough to be blamed ;).
As for other sites Paul, please the more the merrier. If there are 20 sites spreading the good news then we all win.

Don,
Wow, you must have a low tolerance for BS! Having 75 names on the ignore list must be the record, or very close to it?

Yeah, it's sort of gotten to that point with some of the postings in the past few months. Perhaps by Christmas I'll hit 100!:)

I thought my list of people on "ignore" status at APUG was long, but Don's got me beat for sure.
