I don't know how the last one went but from the thread it looked like a success. Would anyone want to do another inkjet print exchange?

Sounds like a great idea to me.

Okay I'm in. Color or B&W prints correct? And inkjet prints only, right?
Thanks,

How does this exchange work? Last one I did was the Canadian Alt exchange. I did a print for everyone who participated (six of us). Has anyone ever done a "digital" negative exchange?

Hmm, how about a deadline for throwing your hat in? Say, August 1st? Then I guess you can email me your addresses and I will make a master list to email to everyone. Then how about 4 week window to make your print and have it in the mail? Something like September 1st?
Ideas?

Oh yeah, inkjet prints only and color or black and white or anything in between.

Not exactly what I was thinking... what I was thinking is that participants electronically provide an image for download and other participants make their own inkjet prints, or digital negatives and alt prints from it....we could use the gallery as the viewing area for finished prints....people could create their own "interpretations" of the images using different processes...no one has to mail anything. It's more collaborative art making.

It's interesting how surprise personality tests can pop up in the most unlikely places. I'm afraid that an 'image download' is giving up too much control for my mental health. It would be like sending someone a film negative. The paper choice, developer, toning, not to mention any personal printing style are all missing. The results may be interesting and fun (what I wouldn't give to be allowed to play with one of Weston's pepper negatives! ) but it's not an exchange of art. Actually, it fits into a stereotype - that digital photography is no more than pushing the "print" button.
My two cents worth,

Not my cup of tea, thanks.

are there any more guide lines other than it has to be an inkjet print?
i might be interested to give it a try.
However, using a downloaded image is not what i would be interested in doing, am lucky to figure out what i am doing with my images let alone someone else's.

Are there two different things going on here? I read the original proposal as an exchange of inkjet prints, which wouldn't interest me at all since I don't make inkjet prints and don't care for inkjet prints as a rule. Michael's suggestion I found very intriguing, but I thought he was talking more about everyone downloading the same image and doing whatever they wanted with it (printing it as an inkjet print, printing it as an inkjet print and painting over it, making digital negatives from it and printing it in whatever alternative process they prefer, etc etc) and the resulting gallery of photos being a very interesting display of the various different hybrid effects that can be achieved using the same image.

Very interesting idea mkochsch. But not what I was thinking. Maybe a different thread and exchange would work for that? I would love to see how others interpret an image. It is a great idea.
I was thinking more of a straight forward print exchange but with inkjet prints. I am really interested in what others are doing with dry inkjet prints and thought an exchange would be fun. So here is what I was thinking in detail.
-Inkjet print
-Any size
-Black and White or Color is fine
-Mounting and matting not necessary but okay if you want too
-signed somewhere by the photographer
-technical details along with the print. i.e. film type, dev type, printer, paper etc.
-Make a master mailing list for everyone
-Signup by August 1st
-have print in the mail by September 1st
If the cost of postage is an issue we can break a big list down for people who only want to send a couple prints. I doubt we will have too many but who knows.

Derek:
Count me in for the inkjet exchange. I was sorry to miss the last one.
An idea having everyone working off one image does sound like it could have a lot of potential. I hope a group gives it a go. I'd love to see the results, but I'm with Ann:

:) That goes at least double for me.

I don't want to muddy the waters here I'm taking this idea to a different thread for discussion.
