I stumbled upon this forum from APUG, where I lurk and learn. I'm studying photography at a local community college, and I've still got a lot of hours to spend perfecting my printing skills.

That said, I have been known to scan my work, to avoid going cross-eyed from using Spottone (love the stuff, but I hate it too) on a print. I find it easier to zap spots digitally.

I've got 35mm cameras and a rangefinder, but recently purchased a Speed Graphic with a 120 back. This is a pretty steep learning curve for me. I've got a manual, but I really need to find someone to walk me through the process. Therefore, I may have to wait until the fall semester begins, before I get into using the Graphex. I've been introduced to large format, but I've only gotten to actually make one Polaroid image.

Thanks,
Mary

Greetings! Mary,

I have a Speed Graphic and a 120 Horseman back. I haven't used that rig for awhile, but I can recall the basics. What kind of "walking through" are you looking for?
Except for the camera movements and focusing, and remembering the dark slide, it should be pretty similar to your 35 and RF. Admittedly, there's nothing like hands-on demonstration, and you may have to wait until Fall, but try running a roll through while taking good notes. Hopefully, we can get you going. A summer is a terrible thing to waste!

Best wishes,
Denise

Thank you Denise. I just found a Photographer's Mate textbook on ebay, and I'm going to walk myself through it. If you don't mind, I may have questions as I go along.

I'm going to work in 120 film at first.

Thank you,

Mary
