I'm just curious if anyone here is planning on attending APIS (http://www.bostick-sullivan.com/Apis%202007/apis%202007.pdf) 2007 in Santa Fe this year? (warning: the link goes to a .pdf and not a normal web page)

The dates are July 19-21 and I'm currently trying to get my summer schedule organized to attend and just wondered who I would get the honor of meeting while there.

Wow, APIS. I went when it was in Santa Fe in '03 (I think)? Been meaning to get back.

I doubt it. I'm teaching a gumover workshop at the Formulary starting on 7/22. Plus, based on the info on the PDF, it doesn't look too compelling to me...

I plan to be at APIS this year. Things could change, but right now it is on my agenda for the summer.

I don't really go for the talks but to meet and talk with other photographers, and share work.

Seems like pretty much the whole first day is more social stuff. Speaking of which, the materials from B&S tend to assume you've already been. They keep referring to "Five prints in five minutes" as if you know what it is already. I mean, I can kind of guess, but it would be nice to know specifically. Also the afternoon print exchange - is it just an excuse to get everybody in one room with prints at the same time, or is it formalized in some fashion ("Everybody hand one to the left").

Partially I'm just trying to figure out what to bring, so any insight would be welcome.

Five prints in Five Minutes - Be there early to get your name in the queue, don't be shy. When your name is called you have 5 minutes to stand in front of the crowd and talk about your 5 pieces. When the gong sounds your time is through!

The print exchange is handled by one of the volunteers. Each print receives a number and the matching number is placed in a hat. When your name is called you get a number pulled from the hat and you can collect the print with that number. All prints should be mounted and wrapped in plain brown paper.

A room is usually set up so folks can show their work ad hoc apart from the lecture area. You can strut your stuff or ask for critiques - reaction to your work. This can be a great way to meet people and match a face with a name.

After hour dinning and drinking is filled with talk about alternative process printing, peoples feelings about the presentation, etc.

It is a great time, but once again I won't be there to share the fun.
