Hello all. I've been a lurker here and on APUG. APUG has been an invaluable resource as I've recently started shooting film, but as I also shoot digital (I have a point and shoot though I do tend to "borrow" my wife's dslr) and do a my film post processing digitally I have been spending an equal amount of time here as well.

Currently living in Nagano Prefecture in Japan (same prefecture as the '98 winter olympics). Looking forward to getting to know y'all and learning a lot more about photography.

Hey Dan, welcome to the other side of the fence. We don't get as much traffic as APUG but maybe we can overcome that.
Since we in the US often don't get the newest releases out of Japan till later, whats on the scene for you over there in cameras and camera phone technology? I thought I read something about a 8mp phone camera in one of the photo magazines?

Thanks for the welcome.

As I don't live in one of the large cities I still rely upon the internet and the tv for my tech news (mainly the internet). I heard about a new 8 mp camera phone but for the life of me I can't remember who is releasing it. As for cameras, the latest I heard was about the new Canon DSLRs, the EOS Rebel T3i and T3 (called the Kiss X5 and X50 here). Canon also announced some glass as well but I hadn't heard much about them yet.

I can't really get excited about camera phones as my cell phone is the cheapest one that softbank offered and the camera stinks and transferring photos are a pain since I have to take the battery out to get at the SD card. Still most phones seem to have decent cameras in them, and if you see anything photogenic there will probably be more cell phones pointed at it than actual cameras.
