Hi All,

Well we talked about this concept a while back and I think we're finally getting somewhere. Please keep in mind the site is still under construction, however your feedback is greatly needed and appreciated! Fell free to post feedback in the dedicated feedback forum.

Thanks,
Sean

This is an excellent project to go forward with and Elevator is very happy to be a sponsor and continue with you.
Good luck and I can assure you it will grow.

Sean,

Thanks for putting this site together. While I prefer traditional film capture for most things, I think that it makes a lot of sense to create a separate site so that the most-easily-offended traditional photographers don't stroke out every time digital is mentioned or hinted at on the APUG site. Like it or not, digital is here for keeps, and it is only wise that we learn to make the process do what we want rather than the opposite.

Thanks for this. I think that digital techniques have enhanced film as an origination medium rather than diminished it. This applies to both still photography and cinematography. More doors have been opened than closed.

Is this site intended as a stand-alone site, or do you see APUG remaining as the forum for discussing the few neutral or near-neutral issues, like lighting for example?

Thanks,
Helen

Thanks Sean. I enjoy working with film but I do like to explore other mediums as well. Why limit yourself?

Thanks Sean for the new site. Hopefully we can cohabitat both sites with discussions continuing from one site to the other.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone! The current forum categories were what I could come up with off the top of my head. I am sure there are many categories missing so if you think any of the categories should be altered or new categories added please post a request in the feedback forum and we'll discuss it. Feel free to use APUG for general traditional talk but I DO understand if the hybrid group prefers to keep such discussions here. If so we can create forums like Helen mentioned above such as "Lighting", etc. New forums will be added here like we do at APUG, so just post a request in the feedback forum and the community can discuss it, then i can add it if everyone agrees. Thanks again, Sean

As important as it is to keep APUG "pure", it's really helpful to also have a forum that incorporates the reality of digital technology and its creative applications and implications for analog processes. As long as the material exists to work traditionally, I'll be doing it, but it's great to know what else can be done. Thanks for this 'place', Sean!

I'm ready to re-subscribe, for this forum, and see that that the donation link doesn't work. Is it an independent subscription or does one subscription cover both?

We haven't ironed out the details but so far will probably keep the site free + ad supported, and maybe an option for patrons to donate. More details over the next week or so..

i would like to be so bold to suggest that those who have been apart of the registration process donate 5-10 dollars to off set the out of pocket expenses that sean has inoccured to bring this site on line.

I talked to sean the other day and he indicated to me at that time, as he has mentioned in the above comment that he would like to keep the site free; however, i also am aware , the domain name was very expenisve along with what ever it takes to pull off one of these efforts.

Just a thought, do with it as you see fit.

Be sure and let us know when this is set up. This is an important forum to me and I'd love to donate to support it.

Thanks Sean for this new forum.

As much as I liked APUG, many APUG members were just plain nasty when digital was mentioned...they gave film a bad name actually, so I stopped going there.

I’ll be here from now on!

Best,

John

Sean, you realize that with the current site, you have effectively killed any possibility to have a digital vs. film argument because you're stuck with using both.... smart move, and no more flame wars!

Yes, I'm hoping any underlying angst between both camps evaporates due to this site. There simply is no reason to really bring such battles into either site now, unless someone is troll'n..

Oh, I am pretty sure we will find a way for having some heated discussions of digital versus film. ;)
