Just curious as to how many people are doing this, and how. I rarely shoot digital in B&W but there are times I convert a color image because it looks better as a B&W, but then I'm stuck as to how to print it in my darkroom...

I have been printing BW murals since 2002 , using my lambda exposing unit .
To date it has been an interesting learning curve, it seems the promotion of this product is being left to the individual labs and has not taken off as expected.
I would really love to see a digital exposing unit end up in a Photography school with wet darkrooms and introduce the young students to wet prints and processes.

I have enlarged B&W negatives digitally on to Pictorico OHP transparency film and printed with hand-coated pt/pd emulsion. You could also do the same on with (silver) traditional store bought B&W papers.

If it's just the odd one off, you could send the file to Digital Silver. They can take the file and print it on fibre based paper for you:

I've output the occasional negative from a neg scan to Pictorico for contact printing on Efke Emaks. Usually this is something I do to retrieve an otherwise irretrievable or very difficult neg to print that I still want to print on silver gelatin. I haven't done it yet with an original digital file, but I don't imagine it would be a very different process, particularly since I'm generating digital files from negs using the camera rather than a scanner these days.

I have been making film output [film-recorder] from digital files for 5 years now. I think Bob is one of the few doing it by hand from a digital enlarger [prints].

Has anyone ever thought of shooting, god forbid, film and processing and printing that? Nothing like printing a 40"x60" from a 4x5 b/w neg.

We're lucky here in Istanbul, there's one big/serious lab that does Lambda output to real B&W paper (resin based though - since early 2004) and another that does film output up to (if I'm not mistaking) 8000 ppi - if you prefer to print the negative yourself in the darkroom...

Ron used to have a silver QTR profile that worked great on Ilford MGIV...not sure if it's still available.

I shoot b/w film (mostly 5x7) and enlarge/print directly to b/w paper. I have done a few digital negatives for contact prints to cyanotype and Pd.
A b/w contact print from 5x7 negative is a nice sized print in its own right. Enlargements are sharp from this sized neg.

I concur, I've actually seen that combination. (Print size 32x40" though.) Err, actually not exactly the same combination; *it was from 4x5" negatives done with a film recorder*... ;) :D
