Gee Art,

What did you expect when Sean posted the invitation to the new site that many of us had been waiting to come into being. ;)

It will be interesting to find out how many "hybrids" come out of the closet!! ;)

maybe this is a plan to 'out' those who dabble in digital and expel them (us) from apug.... :)

Hi my name is Joe. I have a digital camera. I use it to make digital negatives for my platinum prints.

There. I've said it and I feel better...

Hi Jim,

I kind of doubt that since there are all already 108 members, most (all?) of whom are from APUG. ;) Additionally many have posted here and they are some of the most respected members of APUG. :D

i don't think it is a matter that we were in the "closet", rather than we respected the mission statement of APUG.

My interest in hybrid processes is fairly new, (the past year or so) and am looking forward to learning a lot from those who i know are knowledgeble.

Hey ya'll :D I think this forum is going to be great as I too have often wanted to ask questions about my digi-negs/hybrid process but out of respect for other APUG members, I have not.

I am interested in the tools and processes that fit the job and give me what I am interested in. I also enjoy learning and trying new and different things.

Bill

Well its me Jim Chinn, APUG regular since almost the beginning. My main concern for coming over here is to get set up so my wife can make quality prints from film scans of 35mm and MF. (OK, yea, I'm sure I might have to play around a little bit also.) Moving up to a quality printer is already in the works and if I don't get her into a film mentality then good money is going to get thrown away on a fairly expensive DSLR. That is cash that can be better utilized on LF film and paper.

So I will be looking for lots of basic info about gear, software etc. Kind of like a newbie to a wet darkroom. We are talking basic info here. Kind of the equivalent of a film first timer asking: "what goes in the tank first, the developer, the stop or the fixer or all 3 at the same time?"

Hello all.... Nice to have a forum where we can speak openly about all things in photography. Also looking forward to posting some photo's that are not 100% analog.

Hi Everyone!

I love film photography, but also want to learn about scanning and digital reproduction! Given we don't have the space for a wet darkroom (plus some senstivitity to the chamicals!), we've been relying on local shops for printing and developing.

Greetings!! :)

just glad that some of the brains are available for picking here as well as APUG. HP looks like a good place to learn. still considering a darkroom in our basement, but i have been scanning negatives for a few years. i also shoot digital and print through a regular lab...and on a couple of sub dye printers for snapshots, etc.

Bob Carnie here
I am glad to see this site up as I work traditionally and digitally each day and am finding wonderful advice on specific methods of working with PS and printing processes that is not available elsewhere.
I feel an energy that was all around me like ,when I first walked into the darkroom in 1973 at Fanshawe College.
Maybe it is the learning curve that I have decided to start on* that 5 or 6 years ago I would not have considered*
I really think this site will help the resurgence of Alternative processes with the young students of 2006 who are just starting their photographic journey.
I think Fred Picker would love this site.
My personal interest is to produce large dodged and burned negatives for some of the permanent processes and figure out how to make registered separation negatives to add colour as an overlay. I have lately concentrated on 6x12 noblex colour images that I hope to someday print back to a permanent colour record.
As well I am working with fibre paper from digital files and slowly finding my way with this unique and interesting process.

Very glad to see the creation of this site.

I have been doing hybrid type work for several years. This typically includes the use of MF, LF and ULF film cameras for image capture. I scan the film negatives and correct tonal values in Photoshop and then make a digital negative for printing with alternative processes, usually carbon, kallitype or Pt./Pd. I use Mark Nelson's PDN system for making digital negatives.

Well, I am David, who has posted on apug a few times over the years it's been going. I to am new to hybrid work (must say I don't much like the name) but have come to it in an endeavour to produce the work that closest comes to what I envisioned when I started to create it.

I am learning to scan and print as a way to work on ideas, and I am also very interested in this new Ilford paper. Bob, how do I go about getting some test prints done....?

Being without a darkroom pushes you to experiment, no bad thing I think.

Hi David
By going to elevatordigital.ca you can go to our ftp site, upload and image and then email us that the upload is there.
