    Highest DPI output?

    Hi all,

I've been playing around with digital negative for the past month now. Though I'm looking at getting a higher dpi to output. I've got a service bureau giving me a 3600 dpi stochastic imagesetter negative, though I'm not that thrilled with it, as white skin tones look gritty when looked up close :|
I'm using Dan Burkholders test image of the woman with all the fruit on her head
Has anyone got better results with a inkjet printer perhaps? Or do you know first hand which is better, a imagesetter or a printer?
    Thanks

You did not say what paper you are printing on. Sounds like silver gelatin? I stop printing on silver gelatin, because all stochastic imagesetter negatives depending on the image, one can see the pattern. I have been only printing kallitypes. I also found rastus to do a better job than diffusion dither or icefields. I also process 1800dpi bitmaps at 1800dpi due to mechanical limitations of the imagesetter at 3600dpi (the problem does not show up all the time, but it does).
