If you want CMY separations go to the channels tab and open the fly out menu and select split channels. Be sure to save your original file before doing this because the copy in memory will be "deleted". After selecting Split Channels you will have CMY grayscale images open in their own window.

You can also convert the image to CMYK and then copy the channels but that is a bit more complicated.

I don't use PS Elements so I can't be sure about this, but I always thought that Channels was not supported in PS Elements. Don't you have to upgrade to the full PS for that capability?

Keith you are probably correct. I ignorned the OP question about using Elements.

I teach an "Intro to Digital Photo" class at a school where all the computers have Elements 4. Yep, a bit outdated! I don't think you can split channels on Elements, I think that takes the full Photoshop...... Unless they've added that to Elements version 5 or 6??

Where there is a will there is a way, or least so it has been said. The book, the Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements describes how to make separations in Elements. Look here:

It looks like PSE 5 did not support Channels - I don't know about PSE6. From some of the reports I've read, the link Don provided does work with PSE6, even though they were written for PSE5.
