Scanning colour negs wrong way round...

Hi there, it could be my imagination but scanning (without mounting fluid) colour negs the wrong way round (by this I mean turning them over and thus having for example Kodak Portra 160NC read as CN061 artroP kadoK) is likely to give you less Newton Rings because of a difference in textures? or is the negative the same 'texture on both sides.....very unscientific i know....but you know what I mean!

also, for some reason scanning Tri-X 400 is problem (newtons rings) free compared to say Fuji Acros 100 as far as Newton Rings go.....

nevertheless, the fluid mounting is the best solution for newton rings without a doubt......i have to find my method for doing it without creating a real mess as I dont have amounting station and they're at ridiculous prices so.....

also, is fluid mounting ok for b/w negs? never tried it as i fear making the negs unusable again....

Yes, you can fluid mount b&w negatives.

The base side (non emulsion) side is more prone to newton rings, so you would probably make the problem worse, not better, by flipping the negative over.

Acros is the worst film as far as newton rings go. I get them in my glass negative carrier between the neg and the bottom (normal) glass.
