    Scanner <200USD

I'm looking for a film scanner because I want to get my 35mm slides onto pbase. I was looking at this one. Anyone here use it? Any other options that I should consider?

I read a review on the Plustek OpticFilm 7200i. The review overall was very positive with a few cons. Whic as I recall were: 1) it had a limited Dmax; 2) colours were not as 'good' as the competition and 3) the supplied software was not great.

I also remeber being pretty impressed by the quality of the scans in the review. Do a google search for a UK site and you may find it.

For under US$200, you might consider getting a used Minolta Scan Dual model (III or IV).

Newegg and B&H don't have any KM scanners. Makes sense since Konica Minolta completely exited the photography business.

How is this one? In addition to 35mm film it can scan medium format.

unless you need an mf film scanner, a dedicated film scanner will generally out perform a flatbed.

Heres the link to the 7200i I mentioned: http://www.ephotozine.com/equipment/...fm?test_id=403

That scanner is very tempting. Except I use a Mac! Is there any way to get this to work on a Mac?

Derek, does your Mac have SCSI? I have a Sprint 4000dpi 35mm scanner which is SCSI that I am not using and would sell for under $200 (to fit in with this thread ) since I scan all MF and smaller with a Nikon 8000 now.

Dynamic range on the scanner is limited. You get what you pay for.

dmax with slides is an issue.

True. You'll probably want to overexpose slides meant for scanning. Bracket so that you get a normal slide for projecting on your wall, and an overexposed one to scan.

Also, you must get Vuescan. Silverfast isn't very good software.
