    Epson 4490

I was wondering if anyone has experience or knowledge of the quality of Epson 4490 scans with m/f or l/f film. Possible use will be for neg making.

I just bought one and am very happy with it. I owned a Microtek i800 for about a month and was disappointed with the software, the support and the machine itself.

For the price point I'd recommend the 4990 in a heartbeat.

Agreed but the 4490 is available at less than half the cost of the 4990 !

I assume you bought the 4990 and not the scanner I am interested in.

Depends on what you are going to use it for. If all you are doing is scanning prints it will do an excellent job. I have never tested it with film since it is limited to 4x5 and really is a step under the 'consumer class' photo scanners, all of which have a minimum of a bed that will handle 8x10 film.

If you intend to scan film for prints larger than 8x10 this probably isn't the right scanner. Dedicated film scanners do better for 35mm and MF and while I have no first hand experience, the design tells me it isn't goingto perform up to the standard of the 4990/V700/V750/i800/i900.
