Best digicam for reproduction

Hi!

I'm looking for a decent digicam for reproducing my prints for web display. I'm not looking for a 2000$ DSLR. Or 1000$ for that matter... :-)

Criteria:

1. Good lens. No purple fringes. Good resolution.
2. Good auto white balance, or easily manually selectable.
3. Tripod socket.
4. Maximum level JPEG files or RAW capabilities.
5. Competitive price.

Price will depend where you purchase the camera. If you purchase online beware of scammers. Check http://www.resellerratings.com/ for dealer ratings.

We have the point and shoot Leica for this exact purpose, very nice little camera for under 1k that gives nice size files.

I actually opted to use my old malfunctioning D70 (display is whacky), as the results from those digicompacts was less than inspiring... I didn't want to spend so much money on a product I didn't like. (BTW: the D70 cost me more than 2000 $ when I bought it, and it doesn't even have a PC-sync socket. Crazy. So I trig the flashes with the built-in flash.)

I did a little test shoot yesterday and ended up with a few OK reproductions. You can see them here: http://timeunit.se/gumprints/

I also tried shooting some glossy fibre prints... That was a lot more difficult. I got a lot of reflections, mainly because the prints are a bit cuved, and some part of the print reflects the light back into the lens. My setup is a 600 Ws strobe with a 80x80 cm softbox to the left of the camera approx 45° from the print. Have a look at the nice sketch I made. :rolleyes:

To avoid reflections, should I increase the angle from the softbox to the camera? Maybe add a reflector on the right side? Maybe I need to tape the print down to make it flatter?

Any input appreciated!
