    Read This before Posting

    Good Day,
Critique galleries and critiquing online is a difficult activity. This forum is going to be an attempt to provide a more structured approach so that the inherent deficiencies of the online critique will be minimized.

The forum has rules. These rules or rules in general may not meet your requirements, and for that I apologize in advance.

    Rules for the Original Poster:
    1. Start a new thread in this subforum. You might wish to give the thread a name that may help augment the critique.
    2. Post an image either by using the attachment functionality or by linking to an image that is already on line elsewhere.
    3. Post multiple images for a series or portfolio or multiple versions of the same (an overall image and a couple details might be a good example and a way to get around the inability to see fine detail and surface texture)
    4. Write up what aspect(s) of the image(s) you wished critiqued. You may wish to have your printing skills, composition, content, all of the above or something entirely different reviewed.
    5. Give an account of what your intent is with regard to the image(s). You may be after a specific feeling or reaction from the viewer or you are possibly trying to emulate a style or genre.
    6. Do not post if you are not willing to have your ideas and work criticized in a public forum.
    7. All images must either be Hybrid or on the way to becoming a hybrid print* (Pure digital and or traditional is not the focus of this site or forum)

Rules for those wiling to critique
    1. Only critique if you have confidence in the value of your opinion.
    2. The object is to help the original poster to improve. Whenever possible for every criticism offer a solution.
    3. Never attack or get personal the image is the focus and offering a path toward improvement is the goal

If your interest is for the image to stand on its own, or you are only looking for comments please use the gallery.

The forum will be periodically cleaned of old critiques.

    Cheers,

    jdc

*neg scans or digital capture will be allowed if the poster is unable to post an example of the finished print. This must be stated in the post.

    g'day JD
you've obviously put a lot of work into the galleries re-organisation, thank you

but i'm now confused, is there no specific Critique Gallery?

can we now critique in any gallery?

why so many options and gallery choices?

    thnx
    Ray

    Ray,
The critique gallery is no more. If you wish to have your work critiqued you need to start a thread in this sub forum and then follow the rules in the original post.

I've rewritten the 'rules' to be more specific.

i've now posted to the critique sub forum, getting some great input, but i'm not sure this is in line with what you intended for this forum, it is more like i've asked for technical advice

    plz comment

I think it looks like a success to me. You wanted advice on a technical issue and you got it. If others use it in that manner and get great responce than thats cool with me. If people want content and presentation critiques i hope they post and get useable reviews.

What if I just want a critique of digital imagery that I am intending to print as VDB's? Currently they are all straight digital, but there will be many images from the project that will be printed VDB. Maybe a critique of the images with thoughts directed at which *type* of images would look good in VDB?

Definitely not trying to stir the pot...the new forum orginization looks good.

Would you be posting a series and asking which and why or a single image and asking will this work? If so I'm fine with it.

Actually I would just be pointing folks toward an on-line gallery and taking suggestions on subject matter, composition, etc...with the idea that many of these images will end up being printed as VDB's. Looking for suggestions and/or a concensus of which images viewers might feel would be more successful than others.

    Thanks.

    Michael,
Sounds a bit too remote for me. You might be better off asking about what constitutes a good choice for VDB (form over detail, low or high contrast, etc...) and then, based upon information, choosing a series to post for evaluation.

I'd like the critique forum to be specific and focused.
