The Collaborative Print Exchange
what I was thinking is that participants electronically provide an image for download and other participants make their own inkjet prints, or digital negatives and alt prints from it....we could use the gallery as the viewing area for finished prints....people could create their own "interpretations" of the images using different processes...no one has to mail anything. It's more collaborative art making.

Open to Ideas:
- Donated (uploaded) images would be the rough equivalent of a scanned 8x10 at 360 DPI give or take a few pixels.
-
if there is intrest I'll work on setting up an FTP area for people to post their files.

OK. Sounds like fun. Put up a gallery of files, download what you like, print what you want.
Slow to accept? Maybe. What if you put up a file and no one wanted to print it? That could be damaging to those sensitive artistic souls that inhabit any forum.
None the less, I think it would be a fun thing.

Hmm, I think this is still rather unclear, how this would work. What I was envisioning was everyone working from one image, just to see the different ways an image could be expressed in different processes and with different "voices." I hadn't thought far enough to consider the logistics of it, such as how we'd pick an image. Perhaps the sensible way to do that would be for several people to upload an image for consideration, and we could discuss and pick the one that would work for a lot of people. It would have to be something that could reasonably be printed in color and in black and white, I think, to show the range of hybrid potential.
There wouldn't be any need to sign up for this; once we'd decided as a group that it would be fun to do and we'd picked an image, it would just be there to download, and anyone could download and print and upload their print at leisure without signing up on a list.
HOWEVER (Big However) it would have to be something that everyone was willing to try and have fun with, in order for it to be a worthwhile project, and I sense a huge lack of interest in this idea, so I think it's probably DOA, although I still am intrigued with the idea, and appreciate Michael's initiative in suggesting it.
The idea of a group of people each uploading an image for other people to choose from, download and print, doesn't appeal to me much. It doesn't have anything to do with being overly sensitive, it's just... I don't see what the point would be, for me.
