CANADA Alt Process Digital Neg Print Exchange
Hopefully this is not stepping on anyone's toes. To save on the costs of international shipping/postage if anyone is interested in an "alt process from digineg" print exchange within Canada let me know? Thanks!

I'm in.
Just give me a few weeks to wade through some re-calibration stuff.

G Guhan Gunaratnam proposed an exchange back in the summer on (the alt list), but I think it's been forgotten. I'd like to debate the merits of a digital vs. actual print exchange. Are you going to coordinate? I would be interested and I'm guessing the following people also would be interested:
Susan Huber
G Guhan Gunaratnam
Bogdan Karasek
Jordan Wosnick

I've only exchanged prints with individuals - this will be the first time as a 'group' - so it's all new to me. I've been alt printing from digital negs, off and on, for the past 6 or so years and would love to see what others are doing 'first hand'. Perhaps I have the wrong impressions of what a group print exchange is all about?

I've participated in print exchanges before (analogue silver gelatin prints) and have found that they are:
1. Fun. You actually end up receiving something in the mail box other than the Canadian Tire flyer or a generic "Dear Taxpayer" card from the local MP.
2. Motivating. You realize that you are sending prints to folks that will scrutinize them much more closely than your aunt Phoebe, so they better be your best.
3. Educational. You get to see the best efforts of others working in the same medium.
The way it works, as I understand it, is that a group of like-minded people, say 10 in total agree to exchange prints by a certain date. They all then beetle into their respective dark/light rooms and create 9 masterpieces (or experimental doodlings...their choice) to be sent to the other members of the list. Once they are sent, you just sit right back and let Mailman Sam deliver 9 prints from 9 other folks to your door. Open packages as they arrive and enjoy!
Typically, there is an exchange, via the forum or in a private email list, of opinions/critique, back slapping, suggestions and general good tidings after it is all said and done.

Craig, that sounds good to me! I wasn't sure if all the work was usually sent to one person and then forwarded 'en masse' to each participant or the way you suggested. Anyways, I just browsed through the 'crappy tire' flyer and there was no joy in it. -
I would be interested in participating (my name is on the list above).

I've made the thread sticky. rogein, let me know if you need anything from me.

So, now that the holidays are behind us, shall we get started on the print exchange? I can try to contact Guhan Gunaratnam (we've corresponded in the past) if others can get in touch with the others on the list who are not (yet) members of this site.

Okay, we're goign to get this started. Anyone who's interested, please e-mail or PM me.
