I'm a graduate of Toronto's Ryerson University, Photographic Arts (Media Studies Program). In the 1980s, exhibited Super8 and 16mm experimental film works at galleries and festivals in Toronto, New York, Europe, Australia. Through the 1990s, explored electronic imaging, combining elements of photography, video, illustration, and imagery generated by program code. Branching from that, I build websites, databases, and other nerdy Unix things. Returned to photography last year, to build a portfolio of new work, and hopefully hold some exhibitions once again.
The directions that photography has taken in the past 10-20 years has been exciting. To name just a few whose work I enjoy: Lee Freidlander, Harry Callahan, Stephen Shore, Phil Bergerson, William Eggleston, Joel Meyerowitz, Lynn Cohen, Jeff Wall, Andreas Gursky, Ed Burtynsky,...
My own work is shot on 35 (Nikon) and 120 (Mamiya) mostly on colour film, then scanned and gently tweaked. I am still learning about digital output options. New projects are underway, plus a newly edited series shot in 1984. Some of these might find their way to the Critique Gallery - please be honest!
The s/n ratio here and on APUG is very high *Respect* and I hope that I can contribute even a fraction towards what's available here already. Looking forward to some good discussions and great images!
Thanks,
Gary
p.s. My intro would not be complete without mentioning my White Shepherd, pictured here just to challenge your f16 rule, and your colorimeter!
