ONWARD '09 Annual Juried Photography Competition by Project Basho Project Basho

Project Basho is pleased to announce ONWARD '09, annual juried photography competition, exclusively featuring new and emerging photographs' work.

This year, we are inviting Peter Barberie, Curator of Photographs at Philadelphia Museum of Art as juror. The deadline is November 14. For more information, please download the entry form from our website.

Theme for the competition is open, and any photographic medium including but not limited to historical processes, traditional silver printing, chromogenic printing and digital processes can be submitted for consideration. Selected photographers’ work will be featured in a group exhibition at Project Basho Gallery. Further recognition will be awarded in the form of cash awards and opportunities for a two-person show at Project Basho Gallery.

Last year's competition attracted close to 300 photographers nationally and internationally who submitted over 1200 images. Andrea Modica, the last year juror selected 59 photographs for the show at Project Basho Gallery, which was held in January and February 2008. Hi,

Thank you again for your participation in ONWARD '09.

This year's ONWARD was another success followed by our first competition which was only a year ago. The competition attracted 413 photographers nationally and internationally who submitted over 1600 photographs.

Peter Barberie, Curator of Photographs at Philadelphia Museum of Art, has carefully selected 73 photographs by 69 emerging photographers. The names of photographers are listed on our website. The selected photographs represent a good segment of contemporary photographic work in approach, subject matter, and processes.

These photographs will be showcased in the ONWARD '09 exhibition at the Project Basho Gallery during the months of January and February 2009. The official opening will be held on January 10th from 2 to 5 pm. Award winners and honorable mentions will be announced at the opening by Tsuyoshi Ito, the Program Director.

We look forward to seeing the participants at the opening in January '09.
