    Nick Brandt's Africa Pictures

This may be old stuff to a lot of you, but I just found them. Marvellous black and white wildlife pictures, shot with a Pentax MF camera and printed digitally.

I just love his stuff. A buddy of mine bought his first Africa book and the images were stunning. He seems like a nice guy. Even participated in a discussion over on APUG some time ago.

I have never seen the original prints, but I think his work is some of the strongest I have seen in the last ten years.

Really stunning stuff. I would like to know how he gets sooooo close to those animals.

Yes, he gets in close, as you can see he doesn't use telephotos as others do. They're some of the most intimate animal photographs I've seen. He used to use a Pentax 67 and a proprietary method to get his trademark depth of field. The prints are digital...

I read that in one of those linked articles. 200mm is the longest telephoto. So for the lion in the wind image, if he filled the frame, then he can only be 20ft away.

Lens Work Issue 99 ( Mar- Apr 2012) has a small portfolio of his work as well as an interview with him.

    Good reading!
